Debbie says...Hooray for Halloween!
Welcome to the first installment of Debbie says..! Debbie says… is a new feature of the Sarnia Mutual blog where Debbie H, our fantastic receptionist and social media fanatic, talks about the topic of the moment. In her first edition, Debbie tackles Halloween!
When I was first asked to write a blog, the first thing I did was panic and then I asked my virtual friend, Google, for some help! My search began with ‘Blogs for beginners’ and ‘What is a blog?’.
The best tip I discovered in my research was “write how you would speak to the audience” and “be yourself”. So here goes, my blogging journey begins at the ripe old age of 34. Wish me luck!
HALLOWEEN - the time of year people either dread or look forward to - there doesn’t seem to be any middle ground – you are either a Halloween loather or lover. I have to say I am a Halloween lover! Any excuse to put decorations up in the office, spooky chocolates on the reception desk and, of course, the mandatory wind up pumpkin and ghosts! Making my working area a fun environment for old and new customers alike is important. I like to see people smile.
Anyone that knows me will know that I am a choc-o-holic, Halloween is the perfect time of year to enjoy all things over indulgent! (Christmas comes next on the list! But I am banned from mentioning the C word in the office until at least November — Bah-humbug!)
My favourite treat for Halloween has to be the simple chocolate covered apple! Soooo delicious, yet great for anyone on a budget. Choccy covered apples are great if you don’t have a lot of time on your hands, and even better, they are mostly fool proof and therefore perfect for anyone who isn’t going to give Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver a run for their money anytime soon (me included!)
200g chocolate (milk or dark)
Break the chocolate into squares and melt in the microwave.
Wash and dry the apples thoroughly.
Stick lollipop sticks into each apple.
Dip the apple into the melted chocolate turning as you go to ensure a liberal coating.
Decorate with sprinkles and leave to set. If you would prefer not to have a flat bottomed apple, stick the apples into a piece of oasis.
Pack in small cellophane bags and tie with a pretty bow to give away as Halloween treats…Easy-peasy J
Thank you for taking the time to read my first blog (of many I hope!). I will leave you all with a thought for the day (as I do love a good quote) “Sunsets are proof that no matter what happens, everyday can end beautifully” (Kristen Butler)
